VCD: Blythe Setting Concepts

Blythe's Setting Concepts

I thought this image is a good hearty, warm look. As Blythe is a village girl, I wanted to make her time period and warmness clear in her setting. I thought that a inside scene would make that clear. Also it the lighting can be altered easily to make it eerie as I please. It's a good angle, a good reference picture.

Blythe is heavily inspired by Rapunzel, and her concept art is a good place to look for references. I love the warm colors and the sketchiness of this picture. Maybe the sketchiness might give it a cool edge, but it might not be appropriate for her transformation.

I like the angle in this picture. I also think the color scheme matches Blythe. I like the dark beams in the foreground and the art style. It has very simple colors, which I like and it wouldn't draw away from Blythe.

A more open picture of a indoor setting. It's more medievel castle-looking, which might be an ideal setting for the witch, or where Blythe will get cursed.

Another good scene could be the village. I thought that the witch wouldn't curse Blythe in the center of a village, as the Witch is of very high status. I like the lighting in this image, as it's warm, yet also dark and it has the eerie green, to foreshadow her curse.

I like the colours used in this, it reminds me of Rapunzel's room. A good picture for indoor reference. The light coming through the window is a nice touch, and is very effective with mood setting. Maybe I could use that in a indoor setting where the light is blocked out by darkness or it is the only source of light.

Since it is only a small viallge, it will be surrounded by foresting and vast landscapes. Maybe facing the witch in her own setting would be suitable. Though I would like something to show Blythe's setting a bit. This maybe too dark and scary, or not posh enough for the witch. But it does capture her scary, intimidating side.

Something like this may be better; softer warm colours. It can easily be altered to look warmer or more scary by lighting or changing tree shapes. I like the soft foggy style. Fog is a good eerie look, will make the cursing look more dramatic.

Maybe a building in the outdoor setting too give off the 'village-girl' vibe a bit more than just trees. Though this picture may look too sweet to be the place of a curse, but adding a part of a building is a good idea.

Reference picture for a old-fashioned village in the middle of nowhere.

Sky-rim is a good place for setting references. It looks medieval and old-fashioned, with a lot of forests and rocky landscapes.

Instead of having a village or a building, I could have something that looks more like a cursing place. Carved rock, forest landscapes. I would add small things to the rocks to give it that old-village look still. But it's a good setting.

Another village reference picture, but more open and with more trees, so it doesn't look as crowded.

Or maybe even some place like the witches house or room.

Some quick sketches of ideas for the setting.
