Visual Communications Design: Cass and Victor

Cass and Victor was a small assignment given to us to learn how to create characters to a theme, I think. The information we were given was that Victor was a Evil old man, and that Cass was a young student.

Most of us started drawing up character design straight away, so see what they should look like. But we were told to start with shapes and Silhouettes, then add your character designs after. See, we were supposed to create very out there characters, like push them and stretch them and squash them to a breaking point. Use shapes to portray your character.

Such as very round characters tend to be jolly, cute, and friendly. Box-y square characters represent strength and confidence.  And pointy edges and triangles show a nasty, mean character.

Then we were given a theme.
It was posh zombies.

So for Cass, I tried going for a boxy look, so make her seem as confident as possible. I also tried soften a few edges, so she wouldn't seem so hard going- not that would necessarily a bad thing. That might have been an ideal thing to do as she is a zombie zombie-killer in a zombie-infested posh suburban area. I tried to get a pastel aesthetic going, same for the rest of the suburb. And I used a croquet bat for a weapon, I don't know how much fancier you can get.

Victor was a lot harder. I struggled to get a good amount of evil and old into one man, while also making him a posh zombie. I also tried to make him very hunchbacked. He's not as exaggerated as I would like. But that's just something I have to work on with my characters.
